AN AFFILIATED ORGANIZATION

THE INSTITUTE FOR WHOLISTIC EDUCATION

The Institute for Wholistic Education is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation incorporated in the state of Wisconsin with its main offices in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin.

The Institute seeks to promote wholistic knowledge from all the great traditions: Vedic, Chinese, Egyptian, Mayan and Aztec, American Indian and modern western approaches to knowledge. But its closest focus tends to be on the Vedic tradition since many of the participants in the Institute are well-versed in this ancient knowledge, and feel strongly that it holds valuable keys for the field of wholistic education.

In fact, one of the faculty members has started his own discipline called "The Art of Multi-Dimensional Living® in which he attempts to revitalize, update and transform Vedic knowledge for modern day western people, as well as show its relationship to modern esoteric Christianity. Many other members continue to follow more traditional approaches such as the work of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. At the same time attempts are always made to incorporate the best knowledge from all ancient and modern approaches. Since its inception in the late 1980's, the Institute has focused primarily on the creation of correspondence courses in the fields of Ayurveda. There is also a course setting forth a unique approach to the practice of Hatha Yoga. The faculty member primarily responsible for the creation of these courses was Edward Tarabilda. Students from around the world have completed the Ayurvedic home-study courses and now practice as Ayurvedic Health Educators, or use the knowledge provided by these courses in other creative ways. See the course descriptions below.

Donations to the Institute are always welcome and we appreciate any support you can give us. You are also welcome to become members of the Institute and participate in any way you deem useful.

COURSE OFFERING #1: AYURVEDIC HOME STUDY COURSE

FIRST YEAR PROGRAM

The Institute, in order to train people in the fundamental principles of Ayurveda, offers a comprehensive, practical program. The course is divided into four parts, comprising eight sections

PART I comprises SECTION A: BASIC FOUNDATIONS AND PRINCIPLES OF AYURVEDA and SECTION B: ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY FROM AN AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE (AN INTRODUCTION).

PART II comprises SECTION C: ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY FROM AN AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE (CONTINUATION), and SECTION D: AYURVEDIC ETIOLOGY, SYMPTOMOTOLOGY AND THERAPEUTICS, including PANCHA KARMA THERAPY.

PART III comprises SECTION E: AYURVEDIC NUTRITION, and SECTION F: AYURVEDIC HERBOLOGY.

PART IV comprises SECTION G: STRESS MANAGEMENT, and SECTION H: HEALTH, LONGEVITY AND THE DISEASE PROCESS.

In this course one learns the science of body-type and the many pillars of therapeutics, which relate to keeping your body-type in balance and maximizing health and longevity. One learns how to use food, herbs, exercise, life style factors and purification measures as tools for health.

This course can finally give you that sense of self-empowerment in health-care that you've long sought. This is Ayurveda's gift to the world.

COURSE OFFERING #2: AYURVEDIC HOME STUDY COURSE

SECOND YEAR PROGRAM

This comprehensive, practical program is offered by the Institute for those students who have completed the first year program in Ayurveda, and wish to study the disease process, and the various diseases themselves, in even greater depth, but without the chaotic complexity of the modern day classification of diseases. Unfortunately, modern day Ayurvedic education has too often adopted our modern way of looking at disease even though a more wholistic Vedic and Ayurvedic model of disease already exists. We have restored this ancient model in this course, and we feel it is a valuable addition to the whole science of Ayurveda as now practiced throughout the world.

There are three parts to this course,

PART I comprises SECTION I: THE DISEASE OF LIGHTNESS AND NOURISHING THERAPY, and SECTION II: THE DISEASE OF HEAVINESS AND LIGHTENING THERAPY.

PART II comprises SECTION III: THE DISEASE OF DRYNESS AND OLEATION THERAPY and SECTION IV: THE DISEASE OF OILINESS AND DRYING THERAPY and SECTION V: THE DISEASE OF HEAT AND ASTRINGENT OR COOLING THERAPY.

PART III comprises SECTION VI: THE DISEASE OF COLDNESS AND FOMENTATION THERAPY, and SECTION VII: THE MULTIPLE ATTRIBUTE DISEASES AND PANCHA-KARMA AND RASAYANA THERAPY, and SECTION VIII: FURTHER EXTENSIONS OF THERAPEUTIC KNOWLEDGE.

This course is suitable for professional doctors, chiropractors, nurses, massage therapists and others who want to go deeply into both the ancient and modern Ayurvedic understanding of pathology and vibrant health.

COURSE OFFERING #3: THE HIDDEN SCIENCE BEHIND HATHA YOGA

We have devoted two correspondence courses to the subject of Ayurvedic Medicine and its use as a wholistic health modality. The Yoga that relates to special uses of the body for spiritual purposes is Hatha Yoga. Although this Yoga has been taught in the west for many years, only certain, superficial, physical aspects have been brought to light. How to relate postures to the various aspects of personality through the original Vedic science of the stars (Jyotish) has not been explored or even touched upon until the advent of the new spiritual discipline called The Art of Multi-Dimensional Living®. This course seeks to rectify this situation, and is divided into three parts:

PART I: AN INTRODUCTION and POSES RELATING TO THE SUN, THE MOON AND MARS IN THEIR RAJASIC, SATTWIC AND TAMASIC FORMS.

PART II: POSES RELATING TO MERCURY, JUPITER, VENUS AND SATURN IN THEIR RAJASIC, SATTWIC AND TAMASIC FORMS.

PART III: PUTTING THE POSES TOGETHER INTO A PROGRAM and USING THE POSES THERAPEUTICALLY.

Photographs showing a maximum and minimum stretching radius for each pose are included and this should be most helpful for those who have intimidated by traditional pictures of adepts in difficult poses. This course is most valuable for a beginning student in Hatha Yoga all the way up to the advanced teacher. It is particularly useful for those who want to approach the poses from a more inward, spiritual perspective. In fact, this course may affect how Hatha Yoga is taught in this country in the future.

COURSE OFFERING #4: A HOME-STUDY MANUAL IN THE SPIRITUAL PATH OF KNOWLEDGE

This is not a correspondence course like the previous three course offerings. This course consists of a home-study manual for those who are interested in deeply exploring the spiritual path of knowledge or discrimination, called Gnana Yoga in the ancient Vedic tradition. It encapsulates, in summary form, many of the teachings of great Gnani's such as Sankara, Mahavir, J.R. Krishnamurti, Rudolph Steiner, Jean Klein, Nisargadatta Maharaj, Ramesh Balsekar and others.

In the spirit of Gnana Yoga it uses questions as entry points into the various basic issues related to spiritual discovery. The answers to these questions serve as initial, vertically directed pointers to a Reality that lies beyond verbal description and purely mental understanding. There is also, however, sufficient expository material laying out the fundamental steps to the practice of Gnana Yoga, and in a manner which is easy to assimilate and use.

COURSE APPLICATIONS

There are no prerequisites to taking any of our courses, but we recommend that you be at least a high school graduate or have equivalent life experience and education. Certificates of Completion are granted for each course upon satisfactory completion of all the required steps. More and more meaningful education is beginning to take place outside the confines of traditional academic institutions, and we hope that our work in wholistic education helps create new life strategies for the public, and, at the same time, offers new approaches to self-sufficiency in wholistic health and living. For further information about any of our offerings, or if you would like to participate in the creation of a new offering, please write: Institute for Wholistic Education, 33719 116th Street, Twin Lakes, Wi. 53181 USA.
